OPERATION “SCRAMBLE”

Background:

Cast your minds back to the 80’s........South West Africa in the far north...... an Air Force Base in a town called Ondangwa. A Base that was well known for quick operations and equally as quick fighter scrambles against anything coming from that country’s northern neighbour. You are about to relive a little of the action from that era.

The crack SAVAF Fighter Squadron has been seconded to AFB Ondangwa, based on Intel received regarding suspicious fast moving aircraft operating in Angola. It is reported that these aircraft are moving closer and closer with their air operations to the Angola/SWA border. It is the SAVAF Fighter Squadron’s task to be on high alert, ready to scramble should any movements be detected by high speed aircraft in Angola. Further Intel would indicate that Fighter Bombers in the Angola region will be very active on 23 October 2012.

Objective:

For the SAVAF Fighter Squadron to be on High Alert Scramble Status, and be ready to act against any air movement stemming from any location in Angola. Military ATC will be monitoring the area closely for any activity.

Orders:

The SAVAF Fighter Squadron is to be on high alert on the apron at AFB Ondangwa between the hours 18h00z and 20h00z on 23/10/2012.
Any aircraft movements detected by ATC in Angola will immediately be communicated to the Squadron.
Any aircraft in Angola that appear to be moving towards the Angola/SWA border at speeds higher than 300KIAS, and enter within a 250Nm radius from AFB Ondangwa will enforce an immediate scramble
Any aircraft interdicted by the SAVAF Squadron will be dissuaded to continue with their activities, and/or escorted to AFB Ondangwa and ordered to land there.
