Debrief: Operation "Scramble"
The mission went off as planned, with two eager fighter jocks standing by at Ondangwa. ATC issued a scramble when a suspicious fast moving aircraft was spotted in the Huwambo area of Angola. The two fighters streaked off into the Angolan Airspace to intercept the aircraft, which turned out to be a MiG25 intent on getting to Ondangwa.
Its mission was foiled by the SA fighters, and a small "difference of opinion" ensued. After much huffing, puffing and pulling of major "g's" the fighters persuaded the MiG to accompany them to Ondangwa peacefully and in an orderly fashion.
This was a good sortie, enjoyed by all. Thanks to the pilots who took the time to participate:
ZAV32Maj Genl Jan (Smokey) Jacobs
ZAV64 Col Eddy (Phantom) Evans
ZAV68 Lt Col Stan (Tinsaver) Martz (MIl ATC)
ZAV70 Maj Nico (Sidewinder) Engelbrecht
Due to a failure in equipment, screenshots could not be posted. Suffice to say that it was a VERY interesting mission!
