Intel has been received of a serious train accident in Northern KwaZulu Natal.

It is believed that a passenger train en route from Durban to Gauteng has derailed just to the north west of Dundee. It is unclear how many casualties there are, and what sort of damage there is, as the Local Authorities have not been able to get to the scene of the accident as yet.

The SAVAF have been tasked to get to the scene as soon as possible to assess the situation, and to render any assistance with the airlifting of injured passengers to medical facilities. Use will have to be made of a spotter plane to locate and identify the scene of the accident, as well as to guide a squadron of helicopters to the scene to airlift people on the ground.

Locate the train accident, airlift the casualties and transport them to a medical facility.

Spotter Plane:

Scramble from Pietermaritzburg (FAPM) and route heading approximately 015* and 80Nm to Dundee (FADD).
Flight level at pilot’s discretion.
Just to the south west of Dundee is the main railway line. Route north west as per the FSNav Plan and follow the main railway line.
Continue along the railway line until the train accident has been located.
Stay overhead the accident scene and guide the helicopter squadron to the site.
Once the heli squad have completed their airlift, route approximately 180* and 100Nm to land at Virginia (FAVG).

Helicopter Squadron:

Scramble from Pietermaritzburg (FAPM) 5minutes after the spotter plane.
Route approximately 015* and 80Nm to Dundee (FADD).
Follow the spotter plane’s instructions to the accident scene.
Land and collect any casualties found at the scene.
Take off again and route to Virginia (FAVG), to land.

Debrief: Operation "Railroad"

Five ever keen SAVAF Pilots reported for duty.
After a very shaky start, Falcor was appointed "Spotter" and was sent on his merry way. The rest of the pack followed 5 minutes later.
Some problems with the scenery, as not all the pilots had the objects in their FS libraries (Phantom, where have you been to get this stuff!!!)
However the pack landed at the site and picked up the people, and the entire flight set off for FAVG to land safely there.
We will sort out the scenery. and possibly refly this at a later stage...

Thanks to the pilots who took part:

ZAV32 Maj Genl Jan (Smokey) Jacobs.
ZAV64 Col Eddy (Phantom) Evans.
ZAV70 Lt Col Nico (Sidewinder) Engelbrecht.
ZAV96 Maj Noel (Falcor) Grieve.
ZAV92 Capt Hugo (Ironman) Nel.
