Now that the St Helena populace are aware of the SAVAF presence and have resigned themselves to the fact that their peace and quiet will be disrupted for the foreseeable future they have come to ask for assistance.

It appears that a rather violent storm passed from east to west some 110Nm south of the island. Unfortunately the Governor of the island and his party of associates were out fishing in the same area and have gotten themselves in trouble. The Governor’s offices received a rather garbled message from the party. Their last known position was in the vicinity of 1805W. Apparently two small vessels are involved, and both are drifting without power.

It is time for the SAVAF to build some serious kudos with the island folk.

Scramble from FACP St Helena (Forward Air Command Post) using spotter planes and helicopters and route south to position 1805W and commence a search and rescue for the stranded vessels. If found, airlift the people and crew and bring them safely back to St Helena.

C208 Spotters are to scramble from FACP St Helena (FHSH) and route south to 1805W.

Commence a search to the west of this position.

Helicopters are to scramble 10 minutes later and route in a southerly direction.

If the vessels are found, spotters are to guide the helicopters in to perform an airlift.

When complete, all aircraft are to recover to St Helena.

NOTE: It is recommended that at least three spotters are deployed and that a line abreast search be performed. The vessels are small, and may have drifted far, and may be very difficult to see.

NOTE: The operation is to be conducted at no higher than 1000 to 1200 feet AMSL.
