EXERCISE “JUMPER”

Background:

As you are aware, the South African Government are hosting delegates from nine countries at present to assess the ZAVAF pilot flying skills with a view to utilising these skills for their own Air Force Pilot Training programmes.
Feedback received would indicate that the delegates are thus far extremely impressed with the skills that were demonstrated in Exercise “Hopscotch”.
However for the delegates’ experience to be complete, they have also requested that the ZAVAF bomber squadron demonstrate their prowess in air to ground bombing activities.
The ZAVAF fighter/bomber squadron have therefore been tasked to perform a bombing exercise at Vastrap for the foreign delegates.
Objective:

The fighter/bomber squadron will scramble from AFB Langebaanwag (FALW) and route to Vastrap (Z26X) and perform an air to ground bombing exercise. The squadron will thereafter recover to AFB Bloemspruit at Bloemfontein (FABL)

Orders:
Scramble from AFB Langebaanweg.
Climb to FL350 at a climb rate of 7500fpm, maintaining M0.95 in the climb and in the cruise.
Maintain an echelon right formation with the lead element.
Route NVV APLAV EGVAS UPV.
At 10Nm UPV on the outbound radial (049*) to Vastrap (Z26X), descend to 3500’ ALT, maintaining M0.95 in the descent, to be at 3500ALT approximately 5Nm before Vastrap.
At the same point turn right 09* (track 058*) to offset for a pitch and dive onto target.
Keep the runway visual on the left and pitch to 6500’ (Lead first, elements at 5 second intervals). Turn in onto the target (some old military tanks and troop carriers) which will be to the east of the runway centreline (see recon photo’s attached)
Commence the bombing run at low level.
Perform four bombing runs on the target using right hand circuits. Hint: begin your pitch at the end of the “downwind leg” to 6500, turning back onto the target.
Once complete, turn onto heading for KYV, climb to FL350 and maintain M0.95 in the climb and the cruise.
Route KYV IBRIS BLV.
Recover to FABL by performing the Military initial approach in formation at 1500’AGL, to break and land.

NOTE:
Once again this will be a finely timed operation! Time plan for the leg up to the Target is as follows:

Start: 0min:00sec
Rolling: 4min:00sec
O/H NVV: 15min:50sec
O/H APLAV: 33min:45sec
O/H EGVAS: 36min:25sec
