On Line Evening 14/01/2014

Post by Phantom » 10 Jan 2014, 21:05

It is the first mission for the intrepid and well rested SAVAF Pilots for the New Year, and it would seem to be a rather boring and straight forward one (well one would only hope so, but you never know what circumstances would bring.....!). Oh well, nothing like an easy job to ease back into the flying routine.

The oil rig off Mossel Bay requires some serious restocking and resupply of equipment. The Authorities have approached the SAVAF to perform the job. We are to fly out much needed supplies and equipment to the oil rig, routing from Mossel Bay, and then recovering to George.

Scramble from Mossel Bay (FAMO) and fly out to the oil rig. Once complete, route to George (FAGG).

Take off from Mossel Bay (FAMO) and fly approximately 195* for 42Nm to locate the oil rig.
Land in turn at the oil rig and offload the supplies you are carrying.
Once all aircraft have completed their unloading, form up as a squadron and route approximately 030* for 55Nm to land at George (FAGG).

Flight Details:

Date: 14 Jan 2014.
Take off time: 18h00Z.
Departure: Mossel Bay (FAMO).
Arrival: George (FAGG).
Equipment: A109/Oryx.
Rules: VFR/IFR as required.
Weather: Unknown.
Fuel load: As required for the distance, plus PLENTY reserves (You never know....).
Distance: Approximately 150Nm.
Leg Time: Approximately 1:50 hours.
Time: Daytime.
Route: Mossel Bay (FAMO)-Oil Rig (MBRG)-George (FAGG).
Comms: 122.80 and ATC where available.
Lost Procedure: Don’t get lost! Just don’t even think about it! Alternatively recover to Plettenberg Bay (FAPG).
VOR/NDB: VOR: GRV 116.60. NDB: PY 277.5.

Good Luck and safe flying, Men!

Debrief Exercise "Top Up/Surprise"

Five eager SAVAF pilots reported for duty at Mosselbay for the first mission for 2014. Take off was a tad late at 18h20z, routing to the oil rig off the coast at Mosselbay for what would appear to be a straight forward supply run to the rig.

All was going well until the Squadron was on the way back to George, when the Lead received an emergency call to route direct to Plettenberg Bay to assist in the evacuation of some campers who were in trouble at their site just off the peninsula at Plett.

The Squadron rose to the occasion and made best speed to Plett to assist. All the affected campers were successfully airlifted and the Squad recovered safely to George.

Thanks to the Pilots who took part:

ZAV32 Maj Genl Jan (Smokey) Jacobs
ZAV64 Col Eddy (Phantom) Evans
ZAV70 Lt Col Nico (Sidewinder) Engelbrecht
ZAV92 2Lt Hugo (Iron Man) Nel
ZAV96 2Lt Noel (Falcor) Grieve.
