The SAVAF are still on temporary deployment at the Ascension Auxiliary Air Base.

Intel has just been received of a ship that is sinking to the south of Ascension. An urgent mayday radio call was intercepted by the radio operators on the Island.

It appears that the ship was en route from Brazil to Luanda, and is sinking fast.

The ship was on a course of 090*. The first call was received from the ship as she was passing 1214W, and the last call before the captain announced that they were abandoning ship was about 4 hours later.

The SAVAF have been asked to assist the hapless sailors by dropping extra lifeboats and supplies until they can be picked up by rescue ships from either Ascension or St Helena.

Scramble from Ascension AB (FHAW) and fly south to find the crew and ship. Drop off some supplies and return to Ascension AB.

Scramble from Ascension AB (FHAW) and fly south hdg 193* FL160 to grid reference 1214W, using C130 aircraft.

At 1214W descend to 1000', and turn left Hdg 090* and commence a search at 1000ft ASML.

Locate the ship or its survivors and perform a supply drop over the area.

When complete, climb FL 160 and route to Ascension AB to recover.
